Cecil Marvin Berkley Sr., 88, of Brookneal went home to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 14, 2015. He was the husband of the late Marion Slate Berkley. Mr. Berkley was born in Charlotte County, June 19, 1927 son of the late Clarence Radford Berkley and Lillie Mason Berkley. He was a member of Falling River Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, a member of Sons of the American Revolution, American Legion Post #52 and a retired Postmaster of Woodbridge, VA. He is survived by one son, Cecil Marvin Berkley Jr. (Catherine) of Woodbridge; a daughter-in-law, Mae Berkley of Stafford; five grandchildren, Gyvel Dalma Berkley of Summerland Key Fla., Rebecca Ann Valker of Leesburg, Cecil Berkley III of Clearwater, Fla., K. Wayne Berkley Jr. (Melissa) of Fredericksburg, Kevin R. Berkley (Ana) of Stafford; a sister-in-law, Nancy Berkley of Surfside Beach, S.C.; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Wayne Berkley Sr.; a brother, Clarence Edwin Berkley; and a sister, June B. Land. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Falling River Baptist Church by the Rev. Keith Williams with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service and at the residence other times. Memorial contributions may be made to Falling River Baptist Church.
