Charlie Edmond Bradner, age 91, of Gladys, died Sunday, February 17, 2019, at his home. Born July 25, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late John Leslie Bradner and Almeta Mae Rowland Bradner.

He was predeceased by his former wife, Dalphine Chumley (Teeny) Bradner, and his second wife, Gaynelle Hutcherson Davis Bradner; brothers Willie, Thomas and Jack Bradner, sisters Mae Rowland, Elsie Epperson, Fannie Epperson, and two infant sisters. He was of the Baptist faith and retired from farming and from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department. He was an avid bluegrass musician, able to play almost any instrument handed to him. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of American Legion Post 52, and of the Long Island Ruritan Club.

He is survived by three sons, Gerald Bradner of Gladys, Chuck Bradner of Lynchburg, and Joel Bradner and wife Kristie of Midlothian; one daughter Donna Bradner and partner Mike Dalton of Altavista; a stepson Carroll Davis (Kathy) of Lynchburg; twelve grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren, including Elijah Lance Liverman, whom he first met on Saturday.

The family extends special appreciation to Centra Hospice staff and volunteers Patricia, Lisa, Abby, Jeaneen, Kathy, Carmen, and others.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Chris Kesler, at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel in Brookneal at 2 P.M. on Thursday, February 21, 2019, and burial with military honors, conducted by American Legion Post #36 of Altavista and Post #232 of Gretna, will follow at the Rowland Family Cemetery on 3424 Telegraph Road, Gretna, VA 24557.

Family visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00, immediately before the service, at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel.
