George Terrell Connelly, Jr (Tim), 76, of Gladys, passed away Tuesday January 5, 2021. He was born the only child of George Terrell Connelly and Lois Connelly. Tim is survived by his wife, Judie Connelly, his son, Terry Connelly (wife Sara), his daughter, Carrington Connelly (husband Domenico), and his three grandchildren Maya, Caelum, and Shiloh. Tim was a 1962 graduate of William Campbell High School. He attended University of Richmond where he played basketball and was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He received his undergraduate degree and MBA at Lynchburg College. After college Tim began working for Connelly Oil Company where he carried on the family business for approximately 20 more years. He saw his job as greater than the work itself. He served the community as his father before him, helping many who could not afford the oil to heat their home. More than once on a Christmas Eve night, Tim (with his children by his side) delivered emergency heating oil to keep families warm. Tim went on to become Controller for Workman Oil Company until he retired. He embraced his work and his colleagues with dedication and care. Upon retirement, Tim volunteered daily to support his daughter at the Harvest Outreach Center, a nonprofit organization based in Gladys, in a variety of roles from bookkeeping to transportation. As an extension of the nonprofit, Tim operated Pioneer Services medical transport for the specific purpose of transporting individuals to needed health services. Tim provided further support as a board member of the Harvest Outreach Center. Tim was held in high regard in the community. He was the first Boy Scout Master of Troop 220 in Gladys, receiving the Scout Master District Award of Merit for his part in leading many boys to the honor of Eagle Scout. Tim served as a past deacon at Edge Baptist Church in Gladys and was a former member of the Gladys Ruritan club. Tim adored his family. As a devoted husband, Tim was a ‘go-along, get-along’ guy. Even though he did not enjoy all the same interests as his wife, such as travel, he ‘went along’. For their 50th anniversary, his gift to his wife was a cross country RV trip. His wife likes to say, after 58K miles, being together 24/7, they returned home still married! His children say they could not have hoped for a better father. His grandchildren say Grandy ‘spoiled them’, he ‘made every conversation happy’, and his love was like ‘a diamond in their heart’. What defined his life the most were the measures unseen, yet known, by everyone who knew him. Tim was a man of integrity, kindness, and patience. He was easy-going and always willing to help others. Rarely if ever was a judgement, criticism or harsh word spoken towards another. Tim was a pure-hearted, humble man of his word and a servant of the Lord.
