Joel Kermit Abbott, 66, of Republican Grove passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the home of his sister.
Joel was born in Lynchburg, May 12, 1950, son of the late Richard E. Abbott and Maureen J. Abbott. He was a member of Republican Grove United Methodist Church, a volunteer with the Disaster Relief American Red Cross – Halifax Chapter, and a retired employee of the Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Board.
He is survived by a son, Zachary Scott Abbott (fiancée Lacy) of Richmond; two sisters, Karen Kaye Abbott Smith (Fred), Jeaneen F. Abbott (Kathy), one brother, David R. Abbott (Jeanette) all of Republican Grove; three sisters from other mothers, Dana Barksdale of Brookneal, Betty Jo Dawson and Kathy Fraley both of Republican Grove; two special canine friends, Puppy Dog and Foxie; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a special lady, Ali Frazier.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Republican Grove United Methodist Church by the Pastor Kyle Uselton with interment in the Abbott Family Cemetery.
Those attending Joe’s Funeral are requested to wear very comfortable casual clothing.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 9 until 10 a.m. before the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Disaster Relief American Red Cross-Halifax Chapter.
