Obituaries

Johnnie Woodie Francis, 97, of Nathalie passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home.  He was the husband of the late Carolyn Jones Francis. Mr. Francis was born in Halifax County, December 1, 1919, a son of the late William T. Francis and Martha Alice Wright Francis.  He was a member of Childrey Baptist Church and a retired employee of Thomasville Furniture Co. He is survived by one daughter, Peggy F. Elliott (friend Harry Hale) of Long Island; two grandchildren, Eva McDaniel (friend Barry Smith) of Concord, Ava Kelly (Jamie) of Gladys; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Smith (Alan) of Concord, Jonathan Kelly of Gladys; one great-great grandchild, Aubrey Smith; a special family friend, Susie Holt; and a number of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Aubrey Elliott; three sisters; and eight brothers. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff at Heritage Hall Nursing Home for their loving care of our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Childrey Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Stanfield with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal and at the residence of his daughter Peggy Elliott, Long Island other times.
