Obituaries

Kaye Abbott Smith, 68, of Republican Grove passed away Friday, February 28, 2020 at home.  She was the wife of Frederick “Freddy” Smith. Kaye was born in Halifax County, February 18, 1952 a daughter of the late Richard E. Abbott and Maureen Johnson Abbott.  She was a member of Republican Grove United Methodist Church, a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary of North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department and Deputy Clerk at Halifax County Treasures Office. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Angie Harris (Carl); a brother, David Abbott (Jeanette); and a sister, Jeaneen Abbott all of Republican Grove; two special nieces, Brittney Davis (Adam) of Nathalie, Jessie Abbott of Durham, N.C.; two special nephews, Andrew Abbott of Republican Grove and Zac Abbott of Richmond; two special cousins, Betty Jo Dawson of Republican Grove, and Dana Barksdale of Brookneal. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Abbott. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Alfred Rimmer with interment to follow in the Abbott Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2020 at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal and at the home of Angie and Carl Harris other times.
