Lee Bernard Dunaway, 93, of Brookneal passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Brookneal.

Mr. Dunaway was born in Campbell County, August 19, 1922, son of the late Lee Warren Dunaway and Lillian Myers Dunaway. He was a member of Falling River Baptist Church, U.S. Army veteran of WWII, bronze star recipient, a charter member of the Brookneal Rescue Squad and a retired employee of Burlington Industries. Making music was his lifelong love.

He is survived by two daughters, Katherine Dunaway-Fariss (Albert) of Rustburg; Gale Seamster (Ronnie) of Brookneal; four grandchildren, Frank Moore of New Braufels, TX, Neal Fariss, Jr. of Rustburg, Brianne Kilbourne (Jason) of Glade Spring, Brian Fariss of Kuna, Idaho; six great-grandchildren, Danielle Ayers (Terry), Phenix Underwood, Makayla Fariss, Riley Fariss, Benjamin and Brent Kilbourne; one great-great grandchild, Emily Ayers. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lee Moore; two brothers, Kenneth and Walter “Chip” Dunaway; a granddaughter, Beth Singleton.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Falling River Baptist Church by the Rev. Keith Williams and the Rev. Tim Dooley with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be performed at the grave by American Legion Post #36 of Altavista.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at Falling River Baptist Church and at the residences of Gale and Ronnie Seamster and Katherine and Albert Fariss other times.
