Richard Charles Hendren, 89, of Brookneal went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 5, 2017. He was a devoted husband of the late Nancy Crabtree Hendren for 69 years.
He was the son of the late Lockie Arrington Hendren and Richard Paul Hendren, and was born in Charlotte County, on September 29, 1928.
Richard was a lifetime farmer, and a driver for Foster Fuels for 40 years. He was a Brookneal Volunteer Fireman for many years, and a member of Brookneal Baptist Church. He is survived by three daughters, Linda Owen (Joe) of Gladys, Sherry Blanks (Ronnie) of Rustburg, and Jan Rogers (Doug) of Brookneal; a son-in-law, Cokie Davidson (Teressa) of Lynchburg; and grandchildren, Brandy, EG, Ethan and Jake Peters; Landon, Aimee, Isaiah, Elijah and Titus Blanks; Amanda and Tony Baldassari; Lindsey, Ryan, Breyden and Avery Parnell; Ryan, Ginny, Evangeline and Hendren Blanks; Justin, Ashley, Noah, Micah and Addison Rogers; Dakota and Ruth Blanks and Tyler Davidson.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, an infant daughter, and Kimberly Hendren Davidson; a grandson, Jeremy Rogers; a sister, Kathryn Hendren Crabtree; and his niece Gayle Crabtree.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Brookneal Baptist Church by the Reverend Ron Davidson, with interment to follow at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Naruna.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church and at his residence other times.
