Ruth Brown Clay, 95, of Lynchburg, formerly of Brookneal passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015. She was the wife of the late Willie M. Clay.
Mrs. Clay was born in Pittsylvania County, April 27, 1920 daughter of the late Felix Thornton Brown and Lona Betterton Brown. She was a member of Brookneal United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Courtland Manufacturing.
She enjoyed a positive and fulfilling life. She loved to cook for all occasions, especially Christmas when she made her wonderful vegetable soup and coconut cake for everyone.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda C. Wright (John) of Lynchburg; one grandson, Mark E. Hendricks (Ellen) of Rustburg; one great-grandson, Tyler Hendricks, whom she adored, of Rustburg; a sister-in-law, Mary Brown of Altavista; and Terry Johnson, whom she thought of as a grandson, of Madison Heights. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean C. Martin; two brothers, Garland Brown, Julian Brown; a sister-in-law, Peggy Brown.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel by Matthew Killmon and Ronnie Simpson with interment to follow in Calvary Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 pm Friday, May 22, 2015 at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal and at the residence of Mark and Ellen Hendricks other times.
