Walter Dale Gilliam, 52, of Lynchburg passed away Monday, July 5, 2021 in Botetourt County. Dale was born in Halifax County, July 15, 1968, the son of Paul T. Gilliam and Kate Hines Gilliam of Brookneal. He was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church, a U. S. Navy veteran, and an employee of Norfolk Southern Railway. Dale enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing and never met a stranger. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons, Clinton W. Gilliam of Lynchburg, Max T. Gilliam (fiancée, Kari Hatchett) of Martinsville; one grandson, Tyler James Gilliam; two sisters, Kathy Collins (Ronnie) of Brookneal, Paula Worsham (Bobby) of Gladys; one brother, Garry P. Gilliam (Robin) of Rustburg; girlfriend, Michelle Brooks of Lynchburg; five nieces, Amanda Brown (Chris), Casey Nelson (Brian), Jessica Haney (Chad), Alexis Morris, Makenzie Keesee; two nephews, Kevin Worsham, Ivan Gilliam (Taylor); one sister-in-law, Stephanie Williams (Robbie); one brother-in-law, Donald Keesee; loving extended family of uncles, aunts, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Tammy Gilliam. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Union Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Mike Pope with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour (10 a.m.) prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Union Hill Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
