William Eugene “Bill” Brasuell, 85, of Gladys passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Jean Foster Brasuell.
Bill was born in Fort Smith, Ark. on December 14, 1932, a son of the late John Henry Brasuell and Bessie Mae Briley Brasuell. He was a devote Christian, and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired employee of Babcock and Wilcox, where he worked for many years as a machinist.
Bill loved to golf, and was a longtime member of Hat Creek Golf Course. He also enjoyed bowling, and spent many hours tending to his garden and doing yard work for several neighbors. He especially loved spending time with family and friends, and was drawn like a magnet to the children. He loved playing cards, and was labeled the “King of Rook”. Bill will always be remembered as a kind, caring, humble man, who always put others before himself. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he survived by one son, David E. Brasuell (Virlyn) of Boise, Idaho; one daughter, Robin B. Gloss (John) of Gladys; six grandchildren, Jenny Buffat, Pam Fleckenstein, Sean Brasuell, Randi White, Bill and James Claybrook; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Chuck Brasuell (Judy) of Portland, Ore.; and one sister, Dorothy Watts of Eugene, Ore. He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Lee Brasuell; two brothers; and three sisters.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Ebenezer Baptist Church by the Rev. Jamie Adams and the Rev. Johnny Roberts with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal and at the residence other times.
