James Eldridge Ellington, 92, of Gladys passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Hailey Ellington.
Mr. Ellington was born in Campbell County, May 23, 1926 son of the late Grover C. Ellington and Annie Elizabeth Almond Ellington. He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, a U. S. Army veteran, a member of American Legion Post #715, the Red Dog Hunting Club, a Charter Member of the Citizens Emergency Crew and a retired employee of General Electric. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, famous for his tomatoes, and went by the name Wolverine on the CB radio.
He is survived by three sons, Dale C. Ellington (Sandy)of Naruna, Randy E. Ellington (Rhonda) of Concord, Fredrick Wayne Ellington (Mary) of Gladys; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Bomar of Lynchburg. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Burton, and Lee Ellington; and two sisters, Christine Snyder, and Antha Koleznar.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2019 at Sharon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Billy Swan and Dr. Dick Daily with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal.
