Obituaries

David Winston Hammock, 81, of Rustburg, crossed into the gates of heaven, Tuesday, November 14, 2023. He was the husband of the late Sandra Jane Mason Hammock. Mr. Hammock was born in Danville, February 15, 1942, one of fourteen children of the late Gordon Lee Hammock and Mary Lee Gammon Hammock. He was a member of Faith Independent Baptist Church, a certified welder, and served as a volunteer for the Rustburg Fire Department and EMS team for many years. Above all he loved his family – his own and those who became family by knowing him. He had a strong faith and cherished his church family. His favorite hobbies were gardening, fishing, and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Fallin (Ted) and Wendy Cyrus (Greg); his grandchildren, Stacey, Tiffaney, Andrew, Brooke, and Scott; his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Aiden, Caroline, Bailey, and Karlee; his fiancée, Patricia Maxfield and her family whom he loved dearly; and his faithful feline companion, Smokey. He was preceded in death by a son, James David Hammock. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Faith Independent Baptist Church, 968 Village Highway, Rustburg by the Rev. Dr. Lee Dittman with interment to follow at Staunton River Baptist Church Cemetery, 2400 Ridgeway Road, Brookneal. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
