June 7, 2022, Dewey Samuel Hailey, 90 years old, went peacefully to rest with his Savior. Dewey was born May 26, 1932 in Halifax, Virginia. He lovingly cared for his family while diligently tending his garden and tinkering with his Chevy trucks. On November 23, 1961, he married the love of his life, Naomi Hailey, and together 60 years, they raised their family of three boys and two girls: Dewey, Susan, Kevin, Carol, and David. Pops always was a jokester, he loved to make people laugh, that was providing he himself could make it through the joke and punchline without laughing. Pops was humble and gentle. He could often be found out in his garden tending to tomatoes or trying to grow giant pumpkins, tinkering with his old Chevy Truck or Ford tractor. Pops had a heart as big as you could find and loved just being with his family. Dewey is preceded in death by his parents Burley and Sam, his brother, Roy, and sisters; Janie, Virginia, and Myrtle who, upon entering heaven, he warmly embraced. He’s survived by his loving wife, Naomi, and children, Dewey (Cynde), Susan (Mark), Kevin (Teresa), Carol, and David (Sarah), 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, brother Sam and sisters: Zadie, Dolly Mae, Margaret, Frances. The family would like to thank Centra Health Palliative Care and the staff of Lynchburg General Hospital for their care of Pops and our family. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at the residence other times.
