Obituaries

Eddie Richard Hughes, Sr. of Gladys, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. He was the husband of Frances Womack Hughes. Eddie was born in Halifax County, March 28, 1934, the son of the late Barry Ben Hughes and Annie Richardson Hughes. He was a member of Brookneal Baptist Church and retired from Burlington Industries. In addition to his wife, he survived by a son, Eddie Richard Hughes, Jr. (Amy) of Florida; two daughters, Cynthia Hughes Schoonover (Dale) of Maryland, Tracey Hughes Wallace of Florida; six grandchildren, Jaime Lohr (Brad), Whitney Hughes, David and Matthew Delgado, Kelsey Shae Wallace, and Christen Kaye Wallace; two sisters, Elizabeth Whitt of Richmond, Kate Fisher (Richard) of Brookneal; two brothers, Ben Hughes (Linda), and Jimmy Hughes (Sue) all of South Boston. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sophia Delgado; two sisters, Mable Ragsdale, and Jean Stanley. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Brookneal Baptist Church by the Rev. Andrew Reisburg with interment to follow in Wickliffe Cemetery.
