Edward Franklin Lair, 86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on December 16, 2020, just one day before his birthday. He was the husband of the late Alice Louise Lair for 53 years.
Mr. Lair was born on December 17, 1933, a son of the late Reva and Harry Lair. He was a life-long member of Thomas Road Baptist Church, where he served as an usher, a U. S. Navy veteran, and retired from the Lynchburg Foundry. Ed enjoyed hunting, farming, and being outside with nature.
He is survived by his children, Teresa Childress (Layton) of Galveston, TX, Debbie Henley (Jimmy) of Forest, Kim Lair of Gloucester, Sharon Harris (Ricky) of Appomattox, and Edward Lair, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ.; eight grandchildren, Dustin and Amanda Childress, Cheyenne, Grace, and Robert Henley, Benjamin and Whitney Harris, Jalen Lair; seven great-grandchildren, Mason, Maddie and Makenna Childress, Kati and Luke Anderson, Rachel Alice, and Oakley Bowman; one sister, Elizabeth “Tootsie” Gaddy. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilton Lair.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Teresa and Layton Childress, who took Ed into their family when he became ill. They provided unconditional love as well as emotional, physical, and spiritual care until Ed passed away with Alzheimer’s Disease.
A graveside service, honoring the memory of Ed Lair, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Wesleybury United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3071 Theta Mill Road, Gladys, VA 24554.
