Obituaries

Ernest William Crews, Sr., 77, of Brookneal passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Linda Vassar Crews for 58 years. Ernest was born in Charlotte County on December 28, 1946, a son of the late Joseph Thornton Crews and the late June Hall Crews. He was a life-time member of Staunton River Baptist Church, where he took pride in serving The Lord, and was the owner/operator of Crews General Contractors. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter: Michelle Creasey (Kerry) of Huddleston and one son: Ernest William “Pete” Crews, Jr. (Becky) of Brookneal; four grandchildren: Hollie and Taylor Creasey, Robbie Poole and Christopher Wilson; two great-grandchildren: Brantlee and Lawson Poole; a sister, Deborah Overstreet (Michael) of Phenix; nephews, Joshua Overstreet, and Kevin Fisher; four nieces: Susie Collins, Heather Lemons, Amanda Crews and Kimberly Holley; and a sister-in-law, Rita Fisher. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Crews. A funeral service will be conducted by Reverend Rick Dellinger at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Staunton River Baptist Church with interment following at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel and at the home at other times.
