JoAnne Banton Whittaker, 65, of Rustburg, was called home on March 2, 2024, to be reunited with her son, Joseph, after a long illness. JoAnne was born in Lynchburg on May 15, 1958, daughter of the late Edward Lee Banton, Sr. and the late June Anne Hendricks Banton. She was an L.P.N. in Lynchburg and was of the Baptist faith. JoAnne is survived by her son, William Stanley (Laura Lee) and daughter-in-law, Amanda Bryant; five grandchildren, Billy Stanley, Breanna Stanley, Makenzie Bryant, Lacy Bryant and Jayden Thomas; and her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Thornton Rosser. She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph M. Thomas. In lieu of a service, and according to her wishes, JoAnne’s ashes will be spread by her family in an undisclosed location.
