Kenneth Bruce Johnson, 82, of Gladys, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Bessie Nichols Johnson for almost 22 years. Kenneth was born in Charlotte County on June 29, 1941, a son of the late Jim Henry Johnson and the late Bernice Bennett Johnson. He was a member of Tree of Life Church in Lynchburg and was a former volunteer fireman for Brookneal Volunteer Fire Dept. He retired from Lynchburg Steel and was a self-employed carpenter. In addition to his wife, Kenneth is survived by a son, Sandy Bruce Johnson (Brenda) of Brookneal; a daughter, Angela Johnson Cannon of Hamilton, Ohio, Laura Beth Terry (Sam) of Nathalie, Derek Wayne Handy (Kayla) of Gladys; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; siblings, Margaret J. Tucker, Minnie J. Jones, Michael Johnson, and Peggy J. Love. Kenneth was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Wayne Johnson; grandchildren, Jennifer Renee Johnson, Bella Handy, Rucker Handy and Jacqueline Nichole Johnson; 3 brothers, Lowell, Clyde, and Willie “Bill” Johnson; and 3 sisters, Gracie Martin, Dorothy Johnson and Mary Shelton. A funeral service will be held in the Henderson Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2024, with Pastor Mike Dodson officiating. Interment will follow at Rough Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, March 4 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the HFH Chapel and other times at the home.
