Lois Anne Wood (Phillips) Eaton went to heaven on Saturday, April 22, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Norman Wood and Ethel Wright Smith. She is preceded in death by her brother Norman Wood and survived by her brothers Ron Wood and Sidney Wood. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia, lived, taught and raised her two children in Woodridge, Virginia and retired to the good life in Appomattox, Virginia in 2012. She was a member of the Appomattox Court House Presbyterian Church where she served on the Session, was an Elder, and a member of the choir and the bell choir. She was instrumental in the founding of several successful dulcimer groups in Appomattox, to include the Dynamic Dulcimers and Appomattox Laptop Orchestra. She hosted many social gatherings at her home including dulcimer jam sessions, Girls’ Day out, Garden Club, and many and varied book clubs. She graduated from James Madison College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Education and earned a Master’s Degree in Liberal Studies from Mary Washington College. She retired from Prince William County Public Schools after 38 years of dedicated service. She was intelligent, well read, a world traveler, an avid gardener and a lifelong learner. We will all remember her as a loving, generous, confident, independent and empowered woman. She is survived by her daughter Kathy Carpenter (Jeff) of Gladys, Virginia; son Randy Phillips (Leslie) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; grandchildren Erik, Val and Becca Phillips of Richmond, Virginia and Kristen Ramsey (Drew) of Cary, North Carolina; great- grandchildren Ty and Jack Ramsey. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 12 at 11:00am at Appomattox Court House Presbyterian Church in Appomattox with fellowship to follow at the church. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 12 at 2:00pm at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
