Ray Sherman Maddox, 77, of Gladys passed away Sunday, February 20, 2022 at home. He was the husband of Joyce Lemar Maddox. Ray was born in Campbell County, March 29, 1944, son of the late Gilbert I. Maddox and Mary Sublett Maddox. He was a member and former deacon of Edge Baptist Church, and was active in the Emmaus community. Ray proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam war, was a member of American Legion Post 52 in Brookneal and had many occupations in his lifetime including farming and truck driving. He worked hard and was always willing to help his friends and neighbors. Many knew him as Cat Bird or Crazy Ray because he always had a joke to tell and was quite the prankster. Most importantly, he loved his family more than anything. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Timothy Ray Maddox (Tina) of Colorado Springs; two daughters, Sherri Maddox (Keith Guthrie) of Nathalie, Melinda Senn (Jeremy) of Colorado Springs; four grandchildren, Josh and Katy Maddox, Eli and Ezra Senn; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend and brother-in-law, Terry Self; life-long friend, Preston Coates. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy, Lowell, and James Maddox. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Henderson Funeral Home by Timothy Maddox. The family will receive friends at the home, 678 Maddox Road., Gladys, following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to your local American Legion of a charity of your choice.
