Sidney Alan Foster, 87, died peacefully in his sleep on February 1, 2022. Sidney was born on October 13, 1934 in Brookneal, the son of Richard Epps Foster and Mary Bridgeman Foster. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, June DeJarnette Foster. Sidney attended the University of Richmond where he played second base for the Spiders baseball team. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army before returning home to Brookneal, getting married, and settling down to raise his family. He began his career at Burlington Industries, where he met his wife, and then moved on to B&W, retiring in 1992. Sidney was an avid and competitive sportsman, enjoying rounds of golf into his eighties. He was always ready and willing to help those who needed him at anytime, was quick to share his laughter, and loved being with his family — especially cherishing the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was an active, lifelong member of Brookneal Presbyterian Church, and served in many roles there over the years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Richard, Warren, and John. Along with June, he is survived by his son, Alan P. Foster; his daughter, Carol Dee Robertson and her husband, Scott; and three grandchildren, Mary Ann, Jack, and Thomas Robertson. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 5, at 11:00 a.m. at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel in Brookneal with interment to follow at Wickliffe Cemetery.
