Steven Earl Mason, 70, of Haymarket, VA. passed away on Jan. 20, 2022 at Fairfax County Hospital, Fairfax VA., due to complications from COVID-19. He was born August 10, 1951 in Washington D.C. and grew up in Vienna, VA. He was the son of the late Bernard and Thelma Mason of Brookneal, VA.
He is survived by his daughter Kimberly G. Poland along with her husband Christopher Poland, and son S. Todd Mason and his wife Stacy Outlaw Mason. Steve and Sharon have five wonderful grandchildren that they loved with all of their hearts, Madison G. Poland (23), Avery C. Poland (20), Copper G. Mason (18), Declan T. Mason (14) and Lydia M. Mason (13). He is also survived by his sisters Carole Jones and her husband Carroll Jones, Connie Joyce and her husband Keith Joyce and his mother-in-law Maxine Turner, brother-in-law Paul Turner with his wife Sandy Turner.
He graduated from Herndon High School in 1969 where he met his wife and love of his life, Sharon Mason, of 46 years. He was a varsity wrestler and baseball player for the Herndon Hornets. He also swam at a younger age for the Vienna Woods Swim Club, where the “Four Amigos” set a record in 1959 that still stands to this day. After marrying Sharon in 1970 they moved to Manassas and started their family. Kimberly was born in 1971 followed by Todd in 1977.
He worked with the Local 602 Steamfitters, and specialized in Controls. He started his own business in 1984 as a Mechanical Control Contractor, designing and installing HVAC controls for commercial and industrial buildings. He loved the relationships he built throughout his career. He worked on large projects that ranged from Smithsonian buildings to NIH and Fairfax Water Plant, just to name a few.
Dad and Mom loved playing Santa and Mrs. Claus together and will be remembered by many who had pictures taken with them. He loved to work on his antique cars, which he passed down his passion to his grandchildren. He also loved to hunt and spend time at the hunting cabin with Todd and their close friends.
Family will receive friends at the Baker-Post Funeral Home and Cremation Center 10001 Nokesville Rd. Manassas, VA on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. and a service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. The family would like to invite family and friends to join us at Dominion Valley Country Club for a time of fellowship, laughing and sharing of memories.
Saturday, January 29th at 2:00 p.m. Dad will be laid to rest at Mt. Carmel Methodist Church in Brookneal, VA with a graveside service.
Henderson Funeral Home of Brookneal Va. Will be assisting the family with graveside services.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to have donations sent to the PKD Foundation (Polycystic Kidney Disease).
