William Henry “Billy” Slate, 86, of Naruna, passed away February 23, 2023 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Lurlee Ann Jordan Slate. Billy was born in Campbell County on September 23, 1936, the son of the late William Vest Slate and the late Mabel Holt Slate. He was a member of Brookneal Baptist Church. Billy was a Navy veteran and he was retired from Brookneal Poultry. Billy is survived by sons James William “Jay” Slate (Amy) of Naruna and Ted Jordan (Michelle) of Forest; daughter Janet S. Hamlett (Eddie Clark) of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren plus another expected soon; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Jordan of Forest. He was preceded in death by son James “Jimmy” Walker Jordan and two sisters, the late Carolyn Mason (Marvin) and the late Marion Berkley (Marvin). A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Andrew Reisberg and the Rev. Cliff Jordan on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Brookneal Baptist Church with interment following at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
