Mattie Caroline Hancock Ashby

Mattie Caroline Hancock Ashby, 78, of Gladys passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021 at home. She was the wife of Aylor William Ashby, Jr.

Mrs. Ashby was born in Halifax County, December 6, 1943, daughter of the late Richard “Dick” Hancock and Mattie Clay Hancock.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Timothy William Ashby of Nathalie; three sisters, Irene Montgomery of Brookneal, Barbara Ivey (Don) of Gladys, Linda Elmo of Nathalie; one brother, Marshal Hancock (Mary) of Nathalie. She was preceded in death by three brothers, and four sisters.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Childrey Baptist Church Cemetery.

Following CDC guidelines those attending will be required to wear a mask and social distance.
