Mary Eggleston Smith, 92, of Brookneal, passed away at Lynchburg General Hospital on Monday, January 27, 2025. She was the wife of the late Walter Joseph Smith, Sr.
Mary was born in West Virginia on May 28, 1932, a daughter of the late Harry Orville Eggleston and the late Edna Mae Knapp Eggleston. She was a retired CNA.
She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Shumaker of Naruna and Hilda Fifer of Lynchburg; a sister, Dorothy Throckmorton of South Boston; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Linda Lou Matherly; two brothers, Thomas L. Eggleston and Billy R. Eggleston and one sister, Nora E. Hamlett.
A graveside memorial service will held at a later date.
