Hattie Marie Guthrie Layne, 83, of Nathalie passed away at home on Friday, January 16, 2026. She was the wife, first, of the late Marshall Lee Jennings and, second, the late Thomas Layne.
Born in Halifax County on January 24, 1942, Hattie was the daughter of the late Brace Guthrie and the late Sally Bet “Betty” Jones Guthrie. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Hattie is survived by two sons, Danny M. Jennings (Roberta) of Aspen and Kenneth L. Jennings (Kym) of Brookneal; seven grandchildren, Kelly Allison, Kevin Klein, Paul Jennings, Robert Jennings, Crystal Wade, Tina Walker and Jonathan Walker; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters, Idell Epperson and Kathy Mason (Walter); three brothers, Tony Guthrie (Annie), Stafford Guthrie (Edna) and Stanley Guthrie.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Bass, her twins Patricia and Phillip Jennings; a great grandchild, Trenton Huggins; two sisters, Holmes Jackson and Cornelia “Heidi” Guthrie; three brothers, Ralph Guthrie, William “Billy” Guthrie and Malcolm Guthrie.
A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Nathan Fair on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Henderson Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Henderson Chapel.
