Gary Wynn Colbert, 75, of Brookneal passed away on July 11, 2021, at home with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Teresa “Terry” Lusardi Colbert for 52 years. Gary was born January 15, 1946, in Naruna, son of the late Lester Anthony Colbert and Barbara Hawkins Colbert. He was a member of Brookneal United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Mead Westvaco. He was past President of Brookneal Dixie Youth Baseball for 20 years, former District 6 Director for Dixie Youth Baseball, a member of the Brookneal Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years, and Staunton River Masonic Lodge AF & AM #155. He loved to support the Friends of Campbell County Sheriff’s Office. He was dedicated to his community and would do anything, at any time, to make it a better place to live. In addition to his wife, he survived by one daughter, Michelle and Terry King; one son, Michael and Stephanie Colbert; five grandchildren, who were the “apples of his eye”, Kaitlyn “Katie-Poo”, and Cody “Fishing Buddy” Lawhorne, Mary-Michael “Princess”, Michael V. “Fat Boy”, and Matthew Wynn “Rug Rat” Colbert; two sisters, Patsy C. and Dan Lawton of Calabash, N.C., Virginia Rae and David Huddle of Bell Springs; one aunt, Betty Carol Colley of Phenix; sister-in-law, Virginia “DeeDee” Cox of Brookneal, who was like a sister to him; and all of his many special nieces, nephews, and friends, who were so faithful to him and his family. Thank You all, you know who you are. He was preceded in death by fours siblings, Phillip Colbert, Anthony “Tony” Colbert, Barbara Cunningham, and Johanna Richardson. The family would like to express a special thank you to his Centra Hospice Team; especially Jetta, Becky, Jessica, Joella, and Ashley, and his special hospice nurse, his daughter, Michelle. You all were such a comfort to him and the family. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Brookneal Baptist Church by the Rev. Matthew Killmon and Pastor Andrew Reisberg with interment to follow in Wickliffe Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 16, 2021 from 3 until 4:30 p.m. and again from 6 until 8 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal and at the residence other times.
