Raymond Rondel Isaacs of Gladys went to be with the Lord at the age of 94 on February 6, 2022. He was the husband of the late Mildred Taylor Isaacs. They shared 64 years together.
Born in Timberlake, Virginia on April 26, 1927, he was the son of the late William Frank and the late Dora Grogan Isaacs, and was one of ten children. He served in the Army Air Force for 3 years and he retired after 30 years from General Electric. He was an electrician, farmer, and gardener in his community, and with the help of his grandson he ‘sowed’ hundreds of tape measures known lovingly as 84s as they worked on building projects.
He was a recent member of New Bethel Methodist Church and was a member and deacon of New Chapel Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Rustburg Ruritan Club. He loved hunting, playing guitar, family gatherings, and hosting the annual family stew at his home. For years he has been known as the “Candy Man”, both at his church and in the neighborhood, and always made sure to have bags of treats to give out everywhere he went. He was fondly referred to as “Fudd” by his family and friends in the hunt club.
He is survived by his daughters Sheila Dane of Charlottesville; Donna Cheatham (Mickey); Lisa Isaacs of Gladys. He leaves behind grandchildren Nick Cheatham (Rikki);
Justin Cheatham (Kelly Jo); Jason Isaacs (Karen). He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Serena Isaacs, Kailey Cheatham, and Indie Cheatham.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Sharon McCulley, four sisters and five brothers.
The graveside service will be held on Wednesday; February 9, 2022, at 11:00 AM.
by Reverend Tim Dooley at New Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Following the service, the family will receive friends in the Church fellowship hall where a luncheon will be served, and at the home of his daughter, Donna Cheatham other times.
