Betty Coates Smith Betty Coates Smith, 68, of George Washington Hwy., Keysville passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.  She was the wife first of the late Garvey Wayne Parsons and second of James Edward Smith of Keysville. Mrs. Smith was born in Charlotte County, August 20, 1945 a daughter of the late Jonah V. Coates and Virginia Morton Coates.  She was member of Beulah Baptist Church. In addition to her husband James, she is survived by one son, Michael Parsons; two daughters, Robin Nance (Jason), Rene Dix (Jeremey) all of Keysville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother David Coates of Keysville; one sister, Louise Huddleston of North Carolina.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Parsons; and a son, Kenneth Parsons. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Beulah Baptist Church by the Rev. Shelby Royal with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal is assisting the family.
