Betty “Deane” Mason Bedsole, 88, of Gladys passed away at Charter Senior Living in Fredericksburg on Monday, July 14, 2025. She was the wife of the late Floyd Ruhane Bedsole. Born in Brookneal on July 2,1937, Deane was the daughter of the late William Kasper Mason and the late Ruby Elder Mason. She moved to Northern Virginia and then retired to Atlantic Beach, N.C., later returning home to Brookneal. Most of her adult career she was an accomplished accountant. She delighted in her 20 years of retirement at the beach where she could enjoy her passions/hobbies of antiquing and shopping with her sisters and her daughter Pam, decorating, traveling, going out to dinner, and mostly spending time with all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Deane particularly looked forward to the cousin gathering for a time of socializing together and spending special time with Bessie Pollard and cousin Ann Canada. Betty is survived by her children, Jeff Carpenter (Kathy) of Gladys, Pamela F. McElvain (John) of Stafford, Gregory B. Carpenter of Florida; grandchildren, Jeffrey Carpenter (Anu), Caleb Carpenter (Catie), Laura Marks (Chris), Kristen Ramsey (Drew), Michael McElvain (Amy), Stephen McElvain (Dawn), Kaitlin McElvain, Gregory Carpenter and Nicole Adams; great grandchildren, Logan, Caleb, Jr., Cooper, Chase, Skylie, Lilly, Ty, Jack, Benjamin and Matthew, Jase, Sophia, Hailey and Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd, her first husband Jack Carpenter, a son Randall Lee Carpenter, a brother Maxwell Mason, granddaughter Amber Leigh Carpenter and brother-in-law Paul Adkins. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 12:00 noon at Beulah Baptist Church Hat Creek with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 18, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel. Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Brookneal is assisting the family.
