Obituaries

Cecil Gray Mason, 89, of Brookneal Highway, Gladys, passed away at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital on March 21, 2023. Cecil was born in Campbell County on January 9, 1934, son of the late Clarence Gibbs Mason and the late Annie Beatrice Mason. He was a member of Kedron Baptist Church and loved his Lord and Savior. Cecil was in the logging business for many years with his father. He then owned his own trucking business and retired from Great Coastal after receiving multiple awards as the Million Mile Driver. He loved talking about driving fast cars and especially his ’58 Chevrolet which fueled his love of Nascar. He especially loved spending time with his friends at the Breakfast Club gossiping and reminiscing about the good old days. Cecil was a dog lover and cherished his time with all of his four-legged babies. He is survived by his daughter Wendy Mason Clark and her husband Whit, of Gladys; step-grandchildren Holly Lyons (Ron) of Madison Heights and Kara Percaro (Alex) of Chesterfield, VA; brother Jerry R. Mason and his wife, Kitty, of Lynchburg, VA; nieces, Jennifer Stephens (Joe), Sheryl Parker (Doug), Joyce Ann Heath (Darrell), Wanda Rackley (Roy) and a nephew, Brandon Mason (Allyson). He is also survived by: 3 special women in his life Clarissa Jones, Brenda Shoemaker and Sally Hitchcock who took such wonderful care of him; in addition to many dear friends and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Laverne Mason Wallace and 2 nephews, Winston Wallace and Bill Wallace. A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Johnny Roberts at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2023 with interment following at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Dennis Riddle Drive, Rustburg, VA 24588.
