Obituaries

Clarence Hiram Jones, Jr., 83, of Brookneal passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late JoAnn George Jones. Clarence was born in Brookneal, September 2, 1940, son of the late Clarence H. Jones, Sr. and the late Evelyn Smith Jones. He was a member of Brookneal Presbyterian Church, Staunton River Masonic Lodge #155, a lifetime member of Brookneal Volunteer Fire Department, and a former member of the Brookneal Town Council. Clarence had retired from BWXT and was an employee of Henderson Funeral Home. He is survived by one son, C.H. Jones, III; one daughter, Leigh Ann Jones Francis both of Brookneal; two grandsons, Conner J. Francis, also of Brookneal, and Colby N. Francis (Lindsey) of Concord; one great-grandson, Rhett L. Francis. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mark N. Francis; and a sister, Doris J. Austin. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Brookneal Baptist Church by the Rev. Herndon Jeffereys, Rev. Matthew Killmon, and Revs. John and Roberta Kidd. Interment will follow in Wickliffe Cemetery with Masonic Rites and last call at the grave. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the home.
