Derek Preston Hatcher, 62, of Gladys passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Mr. Hatcher was born in Lynchburg, January 30, 1956, a son of the late Preston Glenn Hatcher, Sr. and Joyce Loretta Ewing. He was a member of Kedron Baptist Church and an employee of Bankers Steel. He is survived by four sons, Dustan J. Hatcher (Christie Burnley) of Forest, Bradley G. Hatcher of Lynchburg, Joey A. Hatcher (Whitney Reynolds) of Madison Heights, and Timothy B. Hatcher (Jewel Owen) of Gladys; A special friend, Cindy Elder of Lynchburg; one brother, Preston G. Hatcher, Jr. (Kelly) of Madison Heights; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Kedron Baptist Church by the Rev. Brian Reynolds with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be performed at the grave by American Legion Post #36 of Altavista and Post #232 of Gretna. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
