Dorothy Austin “Dot” Carr, 81, of Brookneal passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Whitt Thomas Carr. Dot was born in Halifax County, April 1, 1935 a daughter of the late Frank Lee Austin and Willie Rice Austin. She attended Lighthouse Baptist Church and was the former Secretary/Treasurer of Brookneal Poultry, Inc. She is survived by two sons, Randy Carr (Carol) of Brookneal, Andy Carr (Patty) of Halifax; one daughter, Pamela Carr of Brookneal; five grandchildren, Austin Blake Carr (Blair), Tyler Thomas Carr, Jenna Renee Carr, Brent Garrison Carr, Lane Anthony Carr; three great-grandchildren, Aubrie, Raegan and Paisley Carr; one brother, Curtis Austin (Connie) of Gladys; one sister, Jane Roark (Leroy) of Nathalie; one sister-in-law, Marie Austin of Nathalie; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Carr; three brothers, Willard, Bill and Russell Austin; three sisters, Bernice Poe, Lois Wilson and Mary Croft. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Mike Conn and the Rev. Greg Thomas with interment to follow in Clover Bottom Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal and at the residence other times.
