Elizabeth Anne “Betty” Scruggs Poindexter, 95, of Phenix, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 7, 2026. She was the wife of the late John Milton Poindexter. Born in Pittsylvania County on May 21, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Lynwood Clark Scruggs and the late Lilly Midkiff Scruggs. Betty was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Betty is survived by her son, Clark Poindexter (Rhonda) of Phenix; her daughter, Rhonda Poindexter Beale (Chris) of Kilmarnock; and five grandchildren, John Paul Poindexter (Crystal), Brian Poindexter (Hannah), Danielle Poindexter Williams (Matthew), Jessica Beale Gilman (Tyler) and Kristin Beale Gupta (Christopher). She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lynwood Francis Scruggs and Henry Claiborne Scruggs, two nephews, Stephen Scruggs and Charles Scruggs and a sister, Jane Ruschmeyer. A graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Chris Kesler on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Poindexter Family Cemetery (600 Seneca Rd., Gladys, VA, 24554). The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Henderson Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
