George Joseph Willis, 87, of Nathalie passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Gretna Healthcare Center. He was the husband of the late Doris Colson Willis. Mr. Willis was born in Monroe, Louisiana, February 12, 1930 son of the late George J. Willis and Eva Arnold Willis-Cranford. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a retired employee of John L. Montgomery Nursing Home. He is survived by two sons, Alan D. Willis of Nathalie, David Willis (Kathy) of Rougemont, N. C.; six daughters, Susan W. Uphold (Dave) of Farmingdale, N.J., Nancy W. Cummings (Jack) of West Monroe, La., Ellen W. Duque of North Plainfield, N.J., Mary W. Bross (Tom) of Nathalie, Lora W. Jaffke (Jorge) of Goode, Judy W. Hinds of Nathalie; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, He was preceded in death by a son, George J. Willis Jr.; and a granddaughter, Angela Willis. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Republican Grove by the Rev. Shelton Miles with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the funeral service and at his residence other times.
