Herman Castle Sawyer, Sr., 92, of Nathalie passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Lela Fisher Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer was born in Virginia Beach, June 1, 1926, a son of the late Henry Harold Sawyer and Emma Davis Sawyer. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, a U. S. Army veteran and a retired civil service worker. He is survived by one son, Herman C. Sawyer, Jr. (Elizabeth Ann) of Scottsville; two daughters, Annette S. Dickey (William) of Suffolk, Mary S. Bomar (Norman) of Nathalie; one brother, Edward Sawyer; one sister, Dora Mae Lawrence of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four special step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Kaye Sawyer; and a brother, Wilson B. Sawyer. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church Cemetery by the Rev. Jeaux Simmons. The family will receive friends at the residence.
