Malcolm Edward “M. E.” Barksdale, Jr., 81, of Brookneal, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 22, 2024. He was the husband of Dana Campbell Barksdale. M.E. was born in Campbell County on January 16, 1943, a son of the late Malcolm Edward Barksdale, Sr. and the late Reva Tribble Lee. He was a member of Falling River Baptist Church and was a retired farmer. He was a veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Malcolm Edward “Mac” Barksdale (Beth) of Brookneal and Stephen Eric Barksdale (Mary Jo Niday)of Brookneal; three daughters, Teresa Newcomb of Richmond, Vicki Barksdale (Stephanie) of Gladys and Kristi Barksdale Anthony (Kevin) of Brookneal; grandchildren, Ashley Poole (Robbie), Colby Barksdale (Alyssa), Heather Hamlett (Anthony), Jami Mann (Shane), Hunter Anthony, Chase Anthony, Gracie Barksdale, Jarrett Walker, and Eric Newcomb; eleven great grandchildren; sister, Patricia Irby; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Dawson; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Blake Barksdale and two sisters, Brenda Hudson and Vivian Hawkins. A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Shelton Miles on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Falling River Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home at other times.
