Paul Oliver Hines, 98, of Brookneal passed away peacefully Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Betty Jean Somers Hines. Paul was born in Halifax County on April 25, 1927. He was the son of the late William Bryan Hines and the late Ruth Oliver Hines. Paul was a member of Brookneal Presbyterian Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II and retired from I.B.M. Paul was a devout Christian and lived a life of service. He was a deacon and elder at the churches he attended, treasurer at Brookneal Presbyterian, a member of the Lion’s Club and The Oddfellows. He was instrumental in the creation of Patrick Henry Memorial Library in Brookneal, as is known today. Paul was a lifetime learner; he loved to travel and read. He had a broad interest in science, history, and the arts. Paul was survived by two daughters, Denise Hines of Henrico and Lisa Lamberth of Maryland; two grandsons, Michael Lamberth of Fredricksburg and Nicholas Lamberth of Maryland; three sisters, Elizabeth Scott, Helen Talbert, and Sara Martin; a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rebecca Bowling and Jean Morris: four brothers, Yancey Hines, William Hines, Jr., Sidney Hines and Earl Hines. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Brookneal Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Herndon Jeffreys. Military honors will be presented at the conclusion of the service. Interment will be at Amelia Veteran’s cemetery. There will be a family visitation on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 3-4p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Brookneal Presbyterian Church, P.O.
