Obituaries

Peggy Lipscomb Montgomery, 89, of Brookneal passed away Monday, January 15, 2024 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Richard T. Montgomery. Peggy was born in Charlotte County, March 11, 1934 a daughter of the late Colgate Lipscomb and Maude Elder Lipscomb. She was a long-time member of Falling River Baptist Church and retired from Bassett-Walker. She is survived by two sisters, Glenda L. Guthrie of Lynchburg, and Deborah L. Lacks (Carlton) of Brookneal; many special nieces and nephews, especially her niece/caregiver Lisa Morton of Greensboro. She was preceded in death by three brothers, James C. Lipscomb, Robert Keith Lipscomb, Randolph William Lipscomb; two sisters, June Carolyn Smith, and Sylvia Gayle Guthrie. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Falling River Baptist Church by the Rev. Lynn Marstin with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and at the home of her sister, Deborah Lacks, 4778 Staunton Hill Road, Brookneal other times.
