Claiming his promise of eternal life, Randolph Keith Guthrie quietly went to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 7, 2018, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Randy was born in Halifax County, Virginia, on July 17, 1961, the fourth child and highly prized son born to Randolph Marshall and Elizabeth Ferguson Guthrie.
Randy is survived by his mother, his sister Gwen Windle and her husband Jimmy of Rustburg, Virginia, and his sister Beth Layne and her husband Forrest of South Boston, Virginia. Randy was a devoted uncle to Ashley Talley of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Trey Davis and wife Kristin of Charlotte, North Carolina; Bryn Davis of Lynchburg, Virginia; Jamie, Diamond, and Michael Windle; and Joel Layne. He was also blessed with two great nephews, Colton Davis and Drew Davis. He was preceded in death by his father and oldest sister, Joan Davis, and brother-in-law, Elliott Davis.
Randy was a devoted member of Cornerstone Church of Christ in Bedford, Virginia.
After graduating with a degree in animal science from Virginia Tech, Randy obtained his real estate broker’s degree and went into business with his father at Ran Guthrie Auction and Realty. He really enjoyed auctioneering on Saturdays with the family. In recent years, he worked for Witt Wholesale Company in Bedford, Virginia and started his own landscaping business, Enviro Care Lawn Services.
Randy enjoyed hunting, reading, Western tv shows, farming, and studying the Civil War. Telling stories and jokes, Randy was witty and proud of his extensive memory.
Randy was blessed with a special friend, Vanessa Purvis, who brought so much sunshine to his life. Caring sitters, Valerie Scott, Cheryle Watson, and Clarence Brown provided loving care in his last months.
A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, October 11, beginning at 2:00 with visitation one hour before at Childrey Baptist Church, 1224 Childrey Church Road, Nathalie, Virginia 24577.
