Raymond Edsel Harris, 88, South Boston passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 at home. He was the husband of the late Patricia Ann Turner Harris. Mr. Harris was born in Kenvir, Ky., September 12, 1928 son of the late Clyde Harris and Jessie Murray Harris. He was a retired Virginia National Guard, Sergeant First Class, a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the South Boston American Legion and Halifax VFW, and a retired employee of the U. S. Postal Service. He is survived by one son, R. Scott Harris (Beth) of Roanoke; one daughter, Sheryl H. Luke of South Boson; two grandchildren, Holly Lucas (Jackie) of Brookneal, Caleb Harris of Rocky Mount; six great-grandchildren, Dallas and Kelly Lucas, Eben, Joshua, Brenden and Camden Harris; one sister, Gwen Coleman of Dillwyn. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shawn Robin Marie Harris. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 by Pastor Tony Johnson in the White Family Cemetery, 107 White Oak Rd., Charlotte Courthouse, off of Germantown Rd. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal and at the residence other times.
