Roy Randolph Carpenter, Jr., 78, of South Boston, passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, September 1, 2025. He was the husband of Penny Averette Carpenter. Roy was born in Richmond, VA on December 19, 1946, the son of the late Roy Randolph Carpenter, Sr. and Mary Shank Carpenter. He spent 42 years in law enforcement and retired as Chief of Police in Stem, N.C. He was of the Methodist faith. In addition to his wife, Roy is survived by children, Roy Carpenter III (Cynde) of Florida, Richie Carpenter of Tennessee, Reginald Carpenter (Mary) of Florida, Johnny Ray Carpenter (Lori) of Madison, N.C., Randi Rebecca Carpenter of Bahama, N.C., Robert Wayne Carpenter (Victoria Goss) of Stem, N.C., April Eudy (Brandon Stone) of Creedmoor, N.C., Christopher Eudy (Melissa) of Stem, N.C. and Rowland Carpenter (Morgan) of South Boston; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Wayne Carpenter of Stem, N.C. and a sister Debbie Carpenter-Jumalon (Bob) of Waldorf, Maryland.
