Thelma Jennings Steppe, 85, of Rustburg, Va., passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 7, 2025. She was the wife of the late Lyle Thomas Steppe, Jr. Born at home in Brookneal, Virginia on December 5, 1939, Thelma was the daughter of the late James Martin Jennings and the late Ethel Mason Jennings. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Thelma graduated from William Campbell High School and Phillips Business College where she met the love of her life, Lyle “Buddy”. She retired from the Campbell County Commissioner of Revenue Office and was of the Baptist faith. Thelma is survived by two daughters, Sandy Nester (Paul) of Vinton, Anne Crance (Tim) of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Mark Nester of Roanoke, Kyle Nester of Vinton, Lauren Arrowood (Dustin) of Spout Spring, Eric Johnston (fiancé Amanda) of Wilmington, North Carolina; two great grandchildren, Luke Arrowood and Olivia Arrowood; a brother in law, Marvin Clark; two nieces, Beth Sullivan and Jean Pinigis; and a nephew, Lyle Franklin. She was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Mae Clark. A graveside service will be conducted by Rev .William “ Butch” Chapman, on Monday, August 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Cumbie Memorial Cemetery, 286 Rocky Road, Rustburg.
