William Monroe “Bill” Carter, 69, of Brookneal, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. He was the husband of the late Claudia Cyrus Carter. Bill was born in Halifax County on April 24, 1955, a son of the late Elizabeth Jennings Handy. He attended Fellowship Community Church. He was a bus driver for Campbell County public schools. He is survived by two daughters, Amy C. St. John (David) of Gladys and Kelly L. Carter of Brookneal; three grandchildren, Devin and Ryan St. John and Aaron Maddox; siblings, Debra Vaughan (David) of Brookneal, Randy Handy (Cheryl) of Gladys, Sammy Handy of Evington and Brenda Johnson (Sandy) of Brookneal. A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Matthew Killmon and Rev. Andrew Reisburg on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at Brookneal Baptist Church with interment to follow in Wickliffe Cemetery. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal is assisting the family.
