Aylor William Ashby, Jr.,79, of Gladys, passed away at Lynchburg General Hospital, Saturday, June 18, 2022. He was the husband of the late Mattie Caroline Hancock Ashby. Aylor was born in Halifax County, June 29, 1942, a son of the late Aylor William Ashby, Sr.and Roberta Conner Ashby. He was a U. S. Army veteran and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. He is survived by a son, Timothy William Ashby of Nathalie; two sisters: Brenda Elder and Peggy Crews of Nathalie; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Ashby. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Donnie Glass with interment to follow in the Childrey Baptist Church Cemetery. Military honors will be performed at the grave by American Legion Post #36 and #232 of Altavista and Gretna. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Henderson Funeral Home.
