Bernice Rowles Tibbs, 98, of Dunedin, Fla., formerly of Concord passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Cross Terrace Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late James Douglas Tibbs.
Mrs. Tibbs was born in Campbell County, January 28, 1917 daughter of the late Mortimer Rowles and Homie Sublett Rowles. She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, a choir member and sang with the Union Hill Quartet. She was also a member of Brookneal Rebekah Lodge #2 and an employee of the Appomattox Garment Factory.
She is survived by one son, Edwin E. Tibbs (Bonnie) of Dunedin, Fla.; two grandchildren, Michael Shaun Tibbs (Diana) of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., Andrea E. Jackson (Brad) of Dunedin, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Avery and Brayden Jackson, Bode, Hanson, Miller and Rian Tibbs; a sister-in-law, Nancy Rowles of Lynchburg. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Grayson, Claude, William “Bill”, Owen, Mortimer Jr. and Bradley Rowles; three sisters, Gracie Rowles, Minnie Carwile and Mazie Carwile.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2015 at Union Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Reggie Warren with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
