Bruce Allen Wade, 86, went to meet Jesus on September 20, 2021. He was born September 12, 1935 in Halifax County, a son of the late Joseph Eldridge Wade and the late Mary Francis Wade. He was married to Jackie Anderson Wade, who survives. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in July. He retired from Burruss Land & Lumber Company after more than 50 years. He was also a farmer, and raised tobacco after he achieved his dream of buying a farm and renovating the existing farmhouse that he and his wife moved into in 1984. Never satisfied to be idle, after his retirement he took a job as the delivery driver for The Union Star where he enjoyed the many stops and talking to people each week. He also had a lawn care business, and other than tending his many chickens, it was one of the things he enjoyed most – cutting grass for his many friends and clients. He also loved to raise a large vegetable garden each summer and enjoyed sharing the produce with family and neighbors. This past summer was the first time, since moving to the farm that he was unable to plant and tend his garden due to his prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife, of the home in Nathalie, his daughter Donna Wade Guthrie and husband Lester; granddaughter Leslie Guthrie Thomas and husband Eric; grandson Clint Wade Guthrie; six great-grandchildren, Savannah Terry, Leah Guthrie, Javie Guthrie, Benjamin Holt, William Thomas, and Noah Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers, Burleigh, Bernard, Bennie, Berkley, Barkley, Bertram, Burnell, Boeling, and Beverly; four sisters, Thelma, Delma, Velma, and Melva Ann; and his granddaughter-in-law April Guthrie. Funeral services will be held at Brookneal Baptist Church on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at the family cemetery, Piney Ridge Road, Nathalie. The family will receive friends one hour before the service and at other times at the home of his granddaughter. Following CDC guidelines those attending the service will be required to wear a mask and social distance.
