Gene Albert Francis, 80, of Nathalie, passed away at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital on Saturday, September 14, 2024. He was the husband of Debra Holt Francis for 46 wonderful years. Gene was born in Halifax County on January 17, 1944, a son of the late Thornton Marshall Francis and the late Selina Lillie Jordan Francis. He was a U. S. Army veteran and retired from Burns Security Service. Gene was a member of Childrey Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school, served as a deacon and helped with Bible schools. He was also a former Chaplin of the Brookneal Odd Fellows. He is survived by a son: Nicholas Gene Francis of Nathalie; a brother, R. Lewis Francis of Rustburg and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother William T. Francis. A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Billy Swan, Rev. Matthew Killmon and Rev. Jerry Stanfield at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Childrey Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, and at the home other times.
